YMCA Narrogin pilots Flippa Ball

Health and Wellness

On Thursday 27th July YMCA Narrogin piloted their first Flippa Ball session; kicking off the term-long program that will run weekly.

The free program offers a modified, grassroots version of Water Polo for beginners and all Swim School families were invited to enrol their children.

The first class was enjoyed by 12 students, and Aquatic Education Coordinator Sam Kempton is keen to see this grow over the course of the next few weeks.

“I was very fortunate in my youth to have positive experiences in swimming, so I would like to see our upcoming swimmers experience this same feeling too,” Sam said.

“Most importantly participation will also develop the capacity of young people to one day save their own life or someone else’s.”

With the pool currently heated to a beautiful 28 degrees throughout this cool winter, Sam is thrilled to provide the children and young people with an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise have.

“It was very rewarding to work through the challenge of packaging together a non-existent sport for the Narrogin community,” Sam said.

“Our town’s loyalty lies to the traditional sporting associations which have been in town for a century or more, so this success is a testament to the importance of program positioning.”

Flippa Ball will take place at YMCA Narrogin every Thursday this term from 5:30pm-6:00pm.
